Growing up in the East Bay Area of California, Avery spent most of his free time in comic shops and arcades, passions he maintains to this day. He first saw Bruce Lee’s “Way of the Dragon” when he was five, sparking a lifelong interest in martial arts. He has since been awarded a brown-advanced belt in Tae Kwon Do and has trained in Kickboxing, Muay Thai, Jeet Kune Do and Boxing, as well as the katana sword and the bo staff.

Spending so much time in the arcade made Avery realize that some of his favorite video games lacked the narrative depth of some of his favorite comic books. His mother, a published author, encouraged him to put his ideas down on paper, and Avery wrote several short stories based on his favorite comic books and video games, including DC’s Batman and Capcom’s Street Fighter II.

Avery began writing Universal Warrior when he was thirteen based on his experiences in life, religion, and the martial arts. Keeping true to his roots in multimedia, the series is to be released as books, video games, and animated films. The first story, Atherean Defenders, is set to be released at either the end of 2011 or the beginning of 2012.

When not writing or working, Avery enjoys playing video games, training, cooking, and surfing the net.
